How do you make shoe covers for costumes?
- Pick the right pair of shoes. It seems simple, but this step is the most important.
- Put one shoe on and wrap it in Cling Wrap followed by Duct Tape.
- Trace and Cut Your Pattern!
- Transfer your pattern onto 4-way stretch fabric and sew your pieces together.
- Put the shoecover on and glue armor pieces with Fabric Glue.
How do you put boot covers on shoes?
To attach the cover to your base shoe, you can either glue it on, or create a detachable cover that allows you to re-use the base shoe. For detachable boot covers, clip and hem the bottom edge with a straight or elastic stitch.
What can I use for shoe covers?
It’s a good idea to stash a couple of plastic grocery bags in your pockets or in your toolbox before heading outside to work in your yard. That way you’ll have quick shoe covers on hand. Just be sure that the bags you take along don’t have holes in the bottom!

To help the garment stay up, I sew a piece of silicone-backed elastic band to the inside if the hem. This type of elastic is used in dessous making and it is simply an elastic band with one or more strips of silicone fused to one side. The wider the silicone strip, the better because it will give you more grip!
